The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and controlling the manufacturing processes for Turbine Blades, Nozzle Guide Vanes, and Heat Shield Segments. These components are typically produced from nickel superalloy castings and machined through a multi-operational, make-to-print process, including CNC machining, grinding, milling, and EDM. The primary responsibility is to ensure that the manufacturing methods for TPS components meet customer specifications and adhere to standards such as AS9100, ISO9001, and NADCAP. Manufacturing Engineers can specialise in either process or customer-focused areas, becoming well-rounded experts in their chosen field. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing issues and implement process improvements. It includes utilizing 3D modelling for process design, applying knowledge of established manufacturing methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma, and maintaining an awareness of Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies and their applications. Additionally, the role includes training and mentoring production staff on best practices, ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to meet project goals.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop and define a manufacturing process for turbine components, ensuring they meet customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and improvement of existing manufacturing processes.
  • Control and manage changes in the manufacturing process to maintain product quality and compliance with standards such as AS9100, ISO9001, and NADCAP.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing issues and implement process improvements.
  • Utilise 3D modelling for process design and optimisation.
  • Apply knowledge of established manufacturing methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma to enhance process efficiency and product quality.
  • Train and mentor production staff on new processes and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
  • Maintain an awareness of Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies and their applications.
  • Any other duties deemed suitable by your line manager and as reasonably required by the business.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of 3D modelling systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods and processes for turbine components (blades, static vanes, seal segments).
  • Knowledge of established manufacturing methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Methodical and logical approach to problem-solving with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both upwards and downwards within the organization.
  • Collaborative team player with a flexible approach and a strong drive for results.
  • Awareness of Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies and their applications.

EDUCATION:

  • Relevant Engineering Degree or Recognised Vocational Qualifications with Equivalent Experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years of experience in an engineering role
  • Industry knowledge in aerospace or power generation manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes for turbine components is preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of 3D modelling system’s
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods and processes for turbine components (blades, static vanes, seal segments).
  • Knowledge of established manufacturing methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
